FatChanceBellyDance Style was created and developed by Carolena Nericcio in California in the 70s and 80s. While the style is modern, it is inspired and influenced by folkloric dances from Spain, Northern Africa, India, and the Middle East. What makes FCBD unique is not only it’s global influences, but its group improvisational style.

Group improvisational style means that nothing we perform is choreographed, but rather we learn this dance style like we learn a spoken language, a collection of vocabulary. This vocabulary is then ‘spoken’ between dancers on stage to create a dynamic and beautiful performance.

This format is freeing for some and scary for others, but it does foster a deep sense of community and connection between dancers, which is where the magic happens.
